VIDEO: Thieves drag stolen generator away from Kelowna winery

A brazen early morning theft from Summerhill Winery is being investigated by the RCMP.

The break and enter happened shortly before 5am on Saturday, July 13, but wasn’t reported to police until shortly after noon on Monday, July 15.

Security footage shows that the suspects gained access to a storage area on the property where they stole a number of tools.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says an arc welder, car jack and other tools were stolen and loaded into a dark green minivan, believed to be a Chevrolet.

The thieves then stole a generator from the winery, but instead of loading it to the van they “haphazardly tied (it) to the rear of the vehicle and drove away from the scene.”

“Their tactics were anything but subtle,” said O’Donaghey. ““The generator not only created a serious traffic hazard on the roadway, but the sparks it created from being dragged along the asphalt posed a significant risk of triggering a wildfire.”

If you witnessed the incident or have any information that could aid investigators, you’re asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
