Ali Fraser and her three daughters are now able to create a better life for themselves thanks to the Okanagan YMCA Little Scholars Child Care.
Fraser made a brave move when she decided to move her family to the Okanagan in order to create a better future.
Being a single mother, Fraser knew it would be difficult. What she didn’t realize was how lucky she was to find a support system and financial assistance that made it all possible.
“I moved my kids away from the only home they had ever known," says Fraser. "I didn't know exactly what we would do once we arrived. The staff and the financial assistance we received at the Y saved us."
Fraser has a plan to go back to school in order to set her family up for the future. She was very thankful to find affordable care for her daughters through the YMCA Little Scholars Child Care.
"Right away, we felt welcome, accepted and safe, which has made such a big difference for the girls," says Fraser. "I've noticed positive changes in each of them, my oldest gets in trouble less, and they are truly happy now. The staff at the Y became our extended family when we needed it most."
The YMCA Okanagan provided financial assistance that made it possible for Fraser’s children to receive care while she continued her education.
"I am so grateful for the Y," states Fraser. "I don't know what I would have done without their support and the donors who make it all possible.”
Fraser is now working at the YMCA Okanagan with the hopes of giving back and making a difference in children’s lives.
According to the 2017 BC Child Poverty Report Card, one in five children in the Okanagan grow up in poverty. At the YMCA Okanagan one in four children are in need of financial assistance in order for their families to afford care.
