Garand has had a very strong start to the season, posting a 7-3 record through 10 games. His seven wins lead the league while his 2.01 goals-against average puts him in 9th. He was also one of five WHL goalies identified by NHL Central Scouting in their "Players to Watch" list for the upcoming NHL Draft.
Other goalies to win the award include Joel Hofer from the Portland Winterhawks, Ethan Anders from the Red Deer Rebels, Beck Warm from the Tri-City Americans, and Roddy Ross from the Seattle Thunderbirds. Garand is the first goalie from the BC Division to take home the award this year.
