The Kamloops Blazers and Gord Bamford are teaming up this February to celebrate the 25th anniversary of when Kamloops hoisted its last Memorial Cup.
In honour of the cup, the two will be putting on a "Rednek Music Fest" filled with award-winning country artists. Bamford, whose son Nash was drafted to the Blazers this year, is set to headline the event with the likes of Jojo Mason, Eric Ethridge, Andrew Wyatt and more joining the festival.
"It's an all-Canadian show, I'm a real proud Canadian and I want to make sure we bring this to town and have a great time," said Bamford. "It's #Rednek Music Festival, so there is going to be a couple of opening acts, it's going to be exciting to tie in a hot stove with the NHL and Blazer alumni. The shows going to run for about three hours so we're just going to bring all the artists out."
“Kamloops has become a special place for me and my family. I’m honoured to kick off the Blazers Memorial Cup celebration with our amazing lineup of artists. You can’t get more Canadian than country music and hockey.”
Notable Blazer alums like Ken Hitchcock, Scott Neidermayer, Shane Doan and more are expected to be in attendance for the celebration taking place on February 21st and 22nd. Tickets start at $39.50 and go on sale October 25th.
"2020 will mark the 25th anniversary of the last time Kamloops hosted the Memorial Cup," said Blazer President Don Moores. "Though there is a community that will remain nameless is hosting the Memorial Cup next year, we also thought we had a lot to celebrate and be proud of."
"The Kamloops Blazers are the winningest team of the Memorial Cup. There were six WHL teams that competed for the Memorial Cup in 84, 86, 90, 92, 94, and 95. These teams of coaches, managers, and players are stuff legends are made of. So far this season, the Kamloops Blazers are celebrating the franchise's storied history by proclaiming February 21st and 22nd of 2020, the Kamloops Blazers Memorial Cup and Western Hockey League Championship anniversary weekend."
Tonight, the Blazers are hosting the Calgary Hitmen at 7 pm. There will be a pregame opening ceremony recognizing returning coaches and players. The game is expected to sell out.
