OKM and George Elliot playing host to the AAAA and AAA provincial girls volleyball championships this weekend

Two more high schools around the Kelowna area are hosting provincial volleyball tournaments this week.

Okanagan Mission (OKM) and George Elliot Secondary (GESS) both will play host to senior women's volleyball provincials, with the Huskies the AAAA event and the Coyotes the AAA.

Among the Kelowna teams competing in the AAAA tournament are the host Huskies (ranked first in pool A), Mount Boucherie (second in pool A) and KSS (second in Pool B).

OKM is the top-ranked team in the province and are expected to be the favourite for the provincial title. They won the Best of the West tournament at KSS earlier this season and also picked up a tournament victory at the Red Serge tournament in Port Coquitlam.

Games begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, at OKM and Canyon Falls Middle School. Friday will be the beginning of the knockout rounds, while Saturday will have the semifinals and final match. The playoff games will be in a best-of-five, as the championship game is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Saturday.

As for the AAA tournament, taking place at George Elliot, the Coyotes are ranked seventh in the province and will be seeded fourth in Pool B. Games begin on Thursday at 10:30 am, with knockout round games being played on Friday and the final set for 5:45 pm on Saturday.

These tournaments coincide with the boys AAAA tournament being played at KSS.

There is a ton of volleyball being played around the city this week, so get out and support your local athletes!
