After a week one win at home, the Okanagan Sun were Island bound for the first of three consecutive road games on Saturday.
It was a shaky start against the Vancouver Island Raiders, as the Sun trailed 10-0 after the first quarter, but they were able to mount a comeback and stay perfect on the season with a 31-24 win.
Both Okanagan quarterbacks got into the game, but it was Liam Kroeger who led the way with 12 completions on 15 attempts for 243 yards and a touchdown.
The lone passing touchdown for the Sun was a 60-yard bomb from Kroeger to Nick Dielissen, the lone catch of the day for the receiver.
Jordayne Falconer and Sam Melanson didn’t find the end zone, but they led the way for the visitors with five catches each for 104 and 90 yards respectively.
It was Elelyon Noa who did most of the scoring for the Sun, as the running back carried the ball 15 times for 98 yards and three scores.
Liam Atwood made his only field goal attempt from just 17 yards away and he was perfect on all four extra point attempts.
Although the Raiders fell short in this one, a pair of receivers had spectacular games as quarterback Sadler Smith threw for over 300 yards.
Ruben Bonsu caught eight balls for 147 yards and a touchdown, while Paul Romanoff snagged seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown as well.
Next up for the Sun is a battle with the Valley Huskers in Chilliwack on Saturday, Aug. 3, before they head back to the Island to take on the Westshore Rebels on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Sun will finally return to the Apple Bowl in Kelowna to host the Prince George Kodiaks on Saturday, Aug. 17.
