PHOTOS: Kelowna is back on the marathon map

It was all smiles and running shoes at City Park as hundreds converged downtown to participate in or watch the Apple Marathon today.

For many, the return of the marathon was a welcome sight since it had been absent for five years and there was uncertainty after the pandemic if it would ever return.

But, with the help of the City of Kelowna and the creation of the Apple Series, which also features the Apple Triathlon, the Apple Marathon made its return to the streets of Kelowna on Sunday.

The event featured a full and half marathon route, as well as an eight-kilometre course to compete in.

Once across the finish line, runners were met with their supporters, medals and various booths to check out as they cooled down and caught their breath.

Richard Brown was the top overall runner as he finished the full marathon with a time of 2:50:58.

Stephanie Brown took the top spot in the women’s field with a time of 3:02:08 after she led the women's group for the entirety of the race.

“We were able to pull these events off rather quickly this year, so we're really looking forward to what we're able to expand on in 2025 when we have a full 12 months of planning,” race director Susie Ernsting told KelownaNow in August.
