Nine schools from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC are set to compete in one of the top Canadian collegiate golf tournaments as the 2024 Canada West Golf Championships open on Monday in Kelowna.
The UBCO Heat are holding this year’s event at the Okanagan Golf Club and the tournament will consist of two 18-hole rounds.
"We are looking forward to welcoming the Canada West Golf Championships back to the Okanagan," UBCO Director of Athletics and Recreation Tom Huisman said this past June.
"We were honoured to host the inaugural championship five years ago and we are excited to host a great event once again with our partners at the Okanagan Golf Club."
UBCO’s Julia Alexander-Carew will look to continue her hot start to the fall season having already earned two conference female golfer of the week titles and a pair of tournament wins.
As a team, the Heat will have their eyes set on improving their second-place finish at last year's event.
Standing in their way is the dominant program from their sister school – the UBC Thunderbirds.
UBC is the four-time reigning champions of the event and Jessica Ng is slated to defend her individual title from last fall.
On the men’s side of the tournament, the UBCO Heat will be without reining champ Justin Towill, who left the program and qualified for the PGA Tour Americas this summer.
The men’s UBC team will have their eyes set on defending their title after defeating the UBCO Heat by three strokes last year.
The Heat are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Western Washington Invitational and a fifth-place finish at the SFU True North Classic.
Both rounds of the tournament begin at 11 am on Monday and Tuesday.
