Canada West announced the postponement of all games through Jan. 16 for the UVic men’s and women’s basketball teams on Tuesday.

The Vikes were scheduled to make a road trip to the BC Interior, stopping first in Prince George for two games each against the UNBC Timberwolves on Jan. 13 and 14 before heading to Kelowna for one game a piece against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Jan 16.

The games had to be postponed due to a number of players on all sides testing positive for COVID-19, causing the teams to fall under the minimum number of players required to compete.

There has yet to be a date set for the rescheduling of these games, however the league remains committed to playing a full regular season schedule in 2022.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are scheduled to return to action on Jan. 28 when they head to Kamloops for a weekend series against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack, their first games after which will be nearly two months away from the court.

The following week will see both Vikes teams return to the island for a home stand against The UBC Thunderbirds on Feb. 4 and 5.
