The UVic Vikes men’s basketball team held on to their number two ranking in the national U SPORTS top 10 poll following a pair of wins over the Trinity Western Spartans over the weekend.
The Vikes began the weekend with a convincing 85-69 win behind 25 points from third-year guard Diego Maffia and would follow up with an equally impressive 97-85 victory on Saturday night.
Reigning Canada West rookie of the year Elias Ralph would lead the way with 25 points of his own in the latter contest.
UVic has put together an impressive 2022-2023 campaign to this point, amassing a 6-2 record with their only two losses coming to the number-six ranked Alberta Golden Bears and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
The Vikes currently sit in second place in the Canada West standings and only one spot behind perennial U SPORTS men’s basketball stalwarts the Carleton Ravens.
UVic will play their last two contests before the holiday break this weekend, as they host the Mount Royal University Cougars at CARSA Performance Gym, with tip-off scheduled for 8 pm on Friday, Dec. 2 and 7 pm on Saturday, Dec. 3.
