KelownaNow wants to get to know the hard working, up and coming artists who fill our city with groovy tunes and we’re almost positive most of you do too!
Our Saturday Spotlight series will feature a new, local act every other weekend, to better strengthen our scene and get to know the people behind the music.
Having got their start in the Okanagan four years ago, punk and indie tinted rock outfit, The Fallaways, are making a name for themselves.
Following a move to Vancouver, the group has brought their catchy hooks, rasp stricken vocals and energetic stage show to venues across the country. Frontman, Jason Koster, answered some questions for us!
What got you started in music?
Small town kid with big dreams is probably the easiest way to put it. Always knew music was gonna be my rock. I started the band under a different alias in 2015 and recorded a three-song EP.
How would you describe your music?
We play punk rock with influences from alternative, hard rock, blues rock, garage rock etc.
Who and what influences or inspires you?
FIDLAR, Highly Suspect, Violent Soho.
We draw inspiration from struggle, success and anything in between with a good story
Tell us about your favourite performance to date?
Our last indie week show in Toronto this year at the hideout. We were the second last band of the night and the venue was really fillin’ up. Probably 180+ people in there. I know it sold out for the last band.. but anyways, I was hit with a cold that day and I was having a pretty rough time. So I napped for a good two or three hours before we played. I don’t even know how, but we somehow managed to just throw it the f*** down and slay it.
What achievement are you most proud of in your musical career?
Our next endeavour. We are bringing up Zac Carper (FIDLAR) to record us in January. Zac is a phenomenal producer and I’ve been following his band and the bands he’s produced over the last ten years or so.
What is your favourite part about being involved in the Okanagan music scene?
The Okanagan is where we started out and got our groove. It was honestly a bit of a difficult scene to get into at first, which is a good thing for a band starting out, it teaches you some resilience.
Every time we’ve been back since the Vancouver move has been epic and we’re stoked to announce the next rager in ktown.

Boston Manor - Welcome to the Neighbourhood
Band of Rascals - Tempest
Highly Suspect - Honestly, like everything they put out, they are one of the best in the game right now.
Also the Glorious Sons, the best rock band in the country right now.
Who has put on the best show you’ve seen?
At indie week we played the bovine sex club, the band who opened the night (Excuses Excuses, an Ontario based punkers) hands down put on one of the most hype sets I’ve ever seen.
They’re still a smaller band but my god the stage presence and songs were just craziness.
What act would you most like to open for?
Foo Fighters.
Favourite local venue?
Fernando’s or Docs.
