Fort St. John resident Sherri Mytopher was recognized by the MS Society of Canada’s BC and Yukon Division for her MS volunteer efforts.
For five years, Mytopher has lived with relapsing-remitting MS. Rather than letting her diagnosis take over, it fueled her awareness of the disease which turned into volunteering.
Mytopher is a member of the MS Society of Canada’s BC and Yukon Division Northern Regional Chapter Council and played a big role in organizing the first MS Walk in Fort. St John in 2017.
“It is so important to be an active member of the MS community because I can bring awareness about MS to people around me. I can empower people living with MS and let them know they are not alone,” says Mytopher.
On Nov. 3, Mytopher was presented with the 2018 BC & Yukon Division’s MS Champion Award at the inaugural MS Connect ’18 conference. Altogether, seven individuals, including Sandra Stibrany from PG, were recognized at the conference.
“Winning this award shows that the work I’ve done is making an impact and that it is being recognized,” said Mytopher. “I stay engaged with the MS Society so I can keep up to date with advancements and therefore be able to keep others informed.”
