With the weather heating up to temperatures rarely seen in British Columbia and wildfire starts being recorded throughout the province, more fire restrictions are going into place.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan announced today that all campfires will be prohibited throughout the region starting at noon on Wednesday.
“Due to extreme temperatures, dry conditions and the high-extreme fire danger rating, the campfire ban will remain in effect until further notice,” explained an RDCO release.
The campfire ban affects all local government fire jurisdictions in the RDCO, although campfires are never permitted within the City of Kelowna.
Violators of this campfire ban can be fined and charged the cost of the fire department’s response to a burning complaint.
Residents and visitors to the region are once again reminded that all smoking materials should be fully extinguished and motorists should use ashtray as opposed to throwing butts out their window.
