UPDATE: Friday evening South Okanagan earthquake felt by Kelowna residents

(UPDATE: Aug. 2 @ 7:30 pm) - According to Earthquakes Canada, this evening’s tremor in the South Okanagan was felt as far north as Kelowna.

The government agency has pegged the tremor at a 2.6 magnitude with a depth of 10km, slightly smaller than the magnitude reported by the USGS, which is reporting a new depth of 14.4km.

Earthquakes Canada added that there are no reports of damage from the incident and none is expected.

(Original story: Aug. 2 @ 5:45 pm) -If you happen to have been in the South Okanagan this evening and felt a slight rumble, you were not the only one.

Just before 5 pm, a 2.7-magnitude earthquake was reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS) just outside of Okanagan Falls.

In a social media post, several people reported feeling the earthquake in Penticton and Kaleden, with a few people commenting that they heard it.

A seismogram viewer on the Earthquakes Canada’s website shows a blip in activity just before 5 pm and the USGS reported that it had a depth of 11km.
