(UPDATE: Nov. 12 @ 5:08 am) - The highway has now reopened.
Power has also been restored in the area.
(UPDATE: Nov. 11 @ 2:55 pm) - BC Hydro crews are now at the scene of downed power lines across Hwy 97 just south of Peachland.
While they are working to fix the issue, power isn't expected to be restored to the 669 affected BC Hydro customers until around 5 pm.
DriveBC confirms that the highway remains shut down in both directions and there is no estimated time for it to reopen.
However, it's likely that Hwy 97 will open around the same time that the power is restored.
The only detour around the issue is around two hours long, using Hwy 97C, Hwy 5A, Hwy 3 and Hwy 3.
(Original story: Nov. 11 @ 1:20 pm) - Power lines have come down across Hwy 97 near Antlers Beach.
BC Hydro says a tree fell on the wires and it has resulted in the power being out for 669 customers in the Peachland and Summerland area.
In addition, Hwy 97 has been shut down to traffic in both directions.
According to BC Hydro, a crew is on their way to the scene, but they’re not expected to arrive until 2:15 pm.
There’s no indication of how long the fix will be once they arrive, which means it’s unclear when power will be restored and the highway will reopen.
DriveBC also doesn’t have a time estimate, but advises travellers in the area to “expect major delays.”
