Two seniors have died after they were hurt in a crash along Hwy 97 on Friday.
Their SUV was struck by a pickup truck at about 8:30 am on Aug. 5 just south of the Vernon Cadet Camp.
The victims – a man, 71, and woman, 65 – were both from Vancouver.
The driver of the truck was also injured and taken to hospital but his status remains “undetermined,” according to BC Highway Patrol.
Police said they suspect impaired driving “as a contributing cause” to the collision.
They explained: “Upon arrival it was determined that a southbound pickup, described as a red GMC, entered the opposing lane and made contact with an oncoming vehicle.”
BC Highway Patrol is now in control of the investigation.
The agency explained: “Where criminality is suspected as a causal factor in a fatal collision, BC Highway Patrol’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team is activated to assist investigators due, in part, to the complexity of these lengthy and technical investigations.”
Anyone with information about the collision, or any dashboard camera video, is asked to contact BCHP Falkland at 250-379-2164 and cite file 2022-3607.
