Multiple search and rescue agencies in the Okanagan teamed up to find a lost hiker in Okanagan Mountain Park today.
The 32-year-old man made a 911 call around 9:30 am, but the cell signal was lost before an accurate position could be confirmed.
However, police got enough information to get a start point for the search, as it was believed that the man was near the Mountain Goat Trail parking lot by Naramata.
According to Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR), the hiker had started his journey on Kelowna’s Lakeshore Road on Saturday, but was not believed to be properly equipped for overnight camping.
Along with COSAR, Penticton Search and Rescue began searching from the south, while Vernon Search and Rescue’s helicopter was placed on standby.
Eventually, the subject was located near Naramata close to the Kettle Valley Railway.
Outdoor enthusiasts are reminded that despite the warm daytime temperatures, you can still expect near-freezing overnight temperatures in the high country.
