Man dead, woman seriously injured after police incident near Keremeos

British Columbia’s police watchdog has been notified of an incident near Keremeos that claimed a life this morning.

Another woman has been hospitalized with serious injuries.

It began around 7:45 am when the RCMP’s emergency response team attempted to arrest a man and woman for outstanding warrants along Hwy 3, just west of Keremeos.

“While attempting to enforce the warrants the man allegedly produced a weapon and was shot by police,” explained an RCMP release. “The incident continued and the woman was also shot as a result.”

The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the woman was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Hwy 3 was closed for much of the late morning, but has since reopened. The area remains cordoned off and secured at this time.

“Due to potential dangers at the location, the BC RCMP explosive disposal unit has been contacted and will be attending the scene,” the release noted.

Now that the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia is investigating the actions of police in this matter, no further information will be released by the RCMP.
