Okanagan Symphony Orchestra to perform masterpiece before Christmas

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra will be playing a true classic in the run-up to Christmas.

Handel’s seminal Messiah will be performed in Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon.

Music director Rosemary Thomson will lead the performances.

"Messiah was actually the very first piece that I conducted with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra back in 1999,” she said.

“A special one for me, indeed."

Thomson has also sung in the chorus at least 15 times, sung soprano solos and played harpsichord and cello for the masterpiece.

There will also be four soloists performing with the orchestra (and Okanagan Symphony Chorus) – soprano Kallie Clayton, counter tenor Shane Hanson, tenor Owen McCausland and bass-baritone Stephen Hegedus.

The schedule is:

  • Kelowna Community Theatre: Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 pm

  • Penticton Cleland Theatre: Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 pm

  • Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre: Sunday. Dec. 22 at 2 pm
