PHOTOS: Funnel clouds form over a frigid Okanagan Lake

Lake Country resident Shannon Chubb thought she was seeing things while eating breakfast Friday morning.

Looking across Okanagan Lake from her home in Okanagan Centre, Chubb spotted what appeared to be some type of "lake tornado" near the Fintry area.

"I have no idea how it formed but it travelled down the lake for quite a long time," said Chubb.

She wasn't the only one who spotted the strange formation either, as several photos of the weather event were posted to a popular Lake Country Facebook page.

According to NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English, isolated convection due to big temperature differences between the relatively warm lake and the cold air above it this morning can lead to tornado-like forms.

While it's possible the event was a water spout, it could have also been a verticle column of air.

At any rate, it makes for a freaky Friday photo!
