Swimming advisory issued for Lake Country beach

Residents of Lake Country are being warned to steer clear of the water at Reiswig Regional Park after “higher than acceptable” E. coli counts were found in samples.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan issued the warning Friday evening following recommendations from Interior Health.

“Residents are advised to follow posted notices at Reiswig Regional Park and not to swim or engage in water-related recreational activities until further notice,” wrote the RDCO.

“If water is ingested, swimmers may develop gastrointestinal illness, skin rashes and/or eye, ear and throat symptoms. The very young, the very old and people with weakened immunity are the most susceptible.”

The RDCO added that beach water quality can fluctuate depending on numerous factors such as currents, runoff, the outflow of creeks, waterfowl and animal waste.

More information on beach water quality can be found online at this link.
