Another successful Great Okanagan Beer Fest main event took over Waterfront Park on Saturday and there are surely a few people still feeling the effects as they wake up for work on Monday.
While one of the Okanagan’s newest brewery, Slackwater Brewing, earned the people’s choice award decided by on-site voting, it was a Port Moody brewery that took home the festival’s biggest prize.
Twin Sails Brewing was crowned ‘Best in Fest’ as decided by the amount of tokens taken in over the course of the day.
People lined up all day to try Dat Juice, a citra pale ale, and one of the brewery’s newest creations, a season raspberry wheat ale called Would Crush.
Coming in second place was another brewery that had a long lineup all day, Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks from Richmond.
Both Twins Sails and Slackwater will have their beers available on tap at the Train Station Pub for the next year, while Fuggles & Warlock earned a feature on the Kelowna Keg Fall Menu.
“It is important to us to offer these type of prizes instead of a traditional trophy,” says Frankie Sheldrake, Event Producer of Gibbons Whistler.
“We feel it’s a win for the breweries, the establishments, and all the beer lovers in Kelowna.”
In total, more than 60 breweries set up shop in Waterfront Park on Saturday offering up a pair of beers each.
It was a perfect day weather-wise and around 3,800 people showed up to take part in the fun.
