West Kelowna man dies scuba diving in Okanagan Lake

The RCMP are investigating the death of a West Kelowna man in Okanagan Lake over the weekend.

Vernon RCMP responded to the medical call regarding an unresponsive scuba diver near Fintry Delta Road, on the northwest side of Okanagan Lake, around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by the BC Ambulance Service that the 56-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The investigation is still on-going, however, it appears the diver may have gone into medical distress during an 80-foot dive,” said Cst. Kelly Brett.

“Other divers and witnesses on scene provided life saving measures to the male until emergency crews arrived. Sadly despite those efforts the male passed away.”

The death has been deemed non-suspicious in nature and the RCMP continue to work with the BC Coroners Service on the investigation.
