New email scam in the Okanagan

Penticton RCMP are warning residents of an email scam circulated to personal accounts in the area.

Recently, they’ve had multiple reports of people receiving emails with the heading "Traffic Infringement Notice.”

The email suggests that the addressee has to pay a fine for a traffic violation in the city.

There is an attachment, which Police are strongly advising residents not to open, with details on how to make payment to a European bank account.

According to a press release from RCMP, they will not contact private email with requests of payment or suggestions that traffic violations have taken place.

Penticton RCMP are cautioning those that receive this type of unsolicited mail that it could make you susceptible to identity theft.
