Flying in and out of the South Okanagan just got tougher.
Air Canada announced Tuesday it will be suspending service to Penticton indefinitely beginning Jan. 11, 2021.
Low demand arising from COVID-19 and ongoing travel restrictions have led to the reduction in service.
"It is increasingly difficult to continue to operate in this challenging environment, without specific financial support from governments, and with continued blanket 14-day quarantines restrictions for all travellers entering Canada," said Air Canada in a media release.
"This decision was not taken lightly, and we regret the significant impact on the affected communities."
According to Air Canada, it is carrying less than 8% of its normal passenger volumes.
The airline is currently the only commercial option out of YYF to Vancouver.
WestJet, which offers flights to Calgary, will be left as Penticton’s only commercial carrier.
