Ashton has big lead in Penticton, appears headed back to BC legislature for third term

Dan Ashton appears on his way to victory in Penticton.

Ashton, a former Penticton mayor, has held the seat for seven years, and had a sizeable lead over Toni Boot of the BC NDP Party with 60 of 129 poles reporting.

As of 10:30 pm Saturday evening, Ashton had 3,764 votes, or 48.50% of the vote.

Boot, the current mayor of Summerland, has 2,697 votes, or 34.7% of the vote.

Ted Shumaker of the BC Green Party had 13.09%, while Keith MacIntyre of the Libertarian Party had 2.90%.

Ashton has served as the official opposition’s Agri-Tourism critic and was Deputy Chair of the Special Committee to Review the Personal Information Protection Act when the legislature was dissolved.

Penticton

- Dan Ashton(Liberal): 3,764 votes

- Toni Boot (NDP): 2,697 votes

- Ted Shumaker (Green): 1.082 votes

- Keith MacIntyre (Libertarian): 222 votes
