The guys from Penticton-based men's recovery program Discovery House got together Sunday morning for a little food, some refreshments, a whole bunch of chit-chat, and the chance to toss softballs at a target and mercilessly plunge six of their own into a dunk tank.
Later on, they posed for a photo wishing all dads a happy Fathers Day.
It was the 14th straight year for the Discovery House Father' Day celebration, and executive director Jerome Abraham, who was such a popular dunk tank victim that he was asked for, and delivered, an encore performance, was all smiles.
"Our goal is returning fathers to children and sons to families," he said, "so obviously this is a really special event for us.
"A lot of the stuff we do at Discovery House -- helping people recover from addiction and mental health challenges and to find housing -- is geared toward getting families back together.
"I think it's a pretty special day for a lot of the guys at the House."
Jerome said he's looking forward to next year when restrictions have likely been eased and families and community members can attend.
"The last time we did this at Skaha Lake Park two years ago, we had 300 people from the community there too," he said. "It's really a thank you to the community for all the help and support they give Discovery House. We've had more donations this year than we've ever had before."
"And it also shows we can have a little fun during recovery."
