New downtown night market a reality this summer if enough vendors inked

It's been awhile since Penticton's had a night market. But if the Downtown Penticton Association can gather enough vendors, it'll have another one this summer.

The DPA announced today that its seeking "up to 36" vendors for what it's dubbed the "Downtown Community Night Market." The new market would launch July 11th, and PentictonNow has been assured that the only hurdle left to jump is vendor numbers. If the DPA hits its goal, it's a go.

"We really want to bring a summertime night market to the Downtown district," said DPA market manager Amber Belcourt. "We hope plenty of vendors apply in order to bring a night market to life in celebration of our fabulous downtown community.”

The Downtown Community Night Market would set up shop on Front Street, in a similar fashion to the current Saturday market. It would appear eight times over the summer, from the 11th of July through the 29th of August, and would run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

Prospective vendors have to June 25th - or until the goal of 36 vendors is met - to submit their applications.

The DPA has also indicated it would like to see a food truck presence. Said Belcourt, "We would also like to host a mini food court on Backstreet Boulevard with up to five food trucks to provide a casual option for foodie enthusiasts."

Interested food truck vendors can use the same application form.

"Our downtown is very walkable," said Belcourt, "with wonderful businesses and services to discover in a conveniently concentrated area. Combined with the existing businesses and restaurants on Front Street, which bring special character to Penticton’s downtown, a Thursday night market will be a lovely complement for anyone seeking a leisurely evening outside.”

Vendor applications for the Downtown Community Night Market are available here.
