Oliver's new Mayor Johansen and Council sworn in

There’s a new man in charge in the Town of Oliver and he’s excited about the future.

Martin Johansen was sworn in as Oliver’s new Mayor at an inauguration ceremony Monday evening in Council chambers.

Johansen, who will soon be retiring from his position as Manager of Building Services for the City of Kelowna, upset longtime Oliver Mayor Ron Hovanes in the Oct. 20 municipal election.

Johansen promised to perform his duties as Mayor faithfully and with integrity, abide by the statutes, policies and bylaws that govern the Town and promote openness and accountability, while dedicating himself at all times to acting in the best interests of the residents of Oliver.

Members of the new Council also selected Councillors to become members and alternates to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Board of Directors. Veintimilla accepted the nomination to become the primary RDOS Board member representing the Town of Oliver, while Johansen accepted being the alternate director.
