If you were anywhere near the north end of the city yesterday, chances are you were either at the Peach City Beach Cruise or trying to negotiate your way through the traffic and the roadblocks associated with it.
We hope you were one of the former, because an event of this magnitude comes around only a few times each year. Granted, a long walk was virtually guaranteed just to get to it. Parking anywhere north of Westminster was at a premium all day, and especially in the early afternoon when the crowd was at its peak.
PentictonNow hit the show twice yesterday, once in the afternoon and again in the evening. Our mission? To trick up our photography to match the level of automotive trickery on display.
We first stopped at the "Old Boys and Their Toys" exhibition at Lakawanna Park to check out the antique machinery, and watched as a group of enthusiasts tried to fire up an ancient engine with the aid of a torch. There was much applause when they succeeded.
Next it was a few strolls back and forth along Lakeshore, where 850 high-end, unique, and vintage vehicles awaited. We spoke with several registrants who said this year's crop was likely the most impressive yet.
We returned in the early evening. Cars often look prettier without the glare of the sun, especially when you're trying for unusual shots. And we heard they'd brought in a seriously hot cover band for the Saturday night beverage garden party at Gyro Park - Vancouver's March Hare.
March Hare did not disappoint. They have a massive repertoire and a ton of costume changes to match. More importantly, they're skilled musicians and vocalists. Last night they ripped through tunes from the 60s and 70s, and they had the dance floor at the band shell hopping all night.
It was big day in Penticton, and a good warm-up for Canada Day celebrations and Ribfest next weekend.
