The 2023 Penticton Peach Festival continued to make news and keep its name in the public eye today with the announcement of yet another night of music on the Peter Bros. Main Stage.
In what was the fourth consecutive weekly media release pertaining to musical acts, the Festival today revealed that the 2023 RE/MAX Tribute Night will involve the Fleetwood Mac tribute band "Dreams," the ABBA tribute band "Arrival," and the third appearance in five years by Eagles tribute band "Eagle Eyes."
The always popular Tribute Night this year will fall on Aug. 11, two nights after all-Canadian rock and roll god Kim Mitchell opens the festival, one night after Aaron Pritchett injects a healthy dose of country, and a night before the tremendous double bill of Doug and the Slugs and 54·40 takes us all back to the '80s.
"We rarely book the same band two years in a row but the performance by Eagle Eyes, and the thunderous ovation from the crowd, convinced us to make an exception,” said Peach Festival President Shawna Guitard, speaking of Eagle Eyes' well-attended 2022 show. “If you close your eyes, you'll think you're listening to the Eagles."
PentinctonNow caught their appearance last year and were mightily impressed with not just the spot-on playing and singing, but the crowd's reaction. Extended applause of course, but in the later stages especially it seemed like half the audience was dancing.
And hey, any tribute band with Ray Harvey, once the wild lead guitarist for severely underrated Canadian metal band Kick Axe, is okay by us. In Eagle Eyes, Harvey takes the role of Joe Walsh.
As for Arrival, longtime Peach Fest head and current entertainment director Don Kendall says, "It's amazing how much their tribute looks and sounds like ABBA."
So we checked out a few vids online and came to the same conclusion.
Filling out the evening is Fleetwood Mac tribute band Dreams, who'll be playing Peach Fest mere months after the passing of the exceptional Christine McVie. There'll undoubtedly be a few tears in the crowd during that set.
Amazingly in the year 2023, admission to all Peach Fest concerts remains free. Kudos to the folks running the show for somehow keeping it that way.
