Hundreds of hot rods, upscale collectors cars, one-of-a-kind kit cars, century-old antiques, and even some straight-up oddities from across North America thundered down Main Street at supper hour last night during the parade kick-off to the 2019 Peach City Beach Cruise.
From any given point between the Skaha Lake and Okanagan Lake beaches, the parade took an hour to roll past. And drivers were in a showy mood, smiling for the cameras, sometimes dressed in costumes, and occasionally holding up props.
The parade done, drivers wheeled their cars to their designated positions along Lakeshore Drive, where they'll remain, to be gawked at and judged, until Sunday.
Most then headed over the Gyro Park, where the band shell was busy with musical acts - including a real good Kenny Rogers tribute band - and food trucks awaited to satiate hunger. It was a busy scene as the evening wore on.
All 850 vehicles registered for the event are available for viewing throughout the day and evening today. And if you want a break from all those cars, Gyro will feature non-stop music, a beer garden, and of course all those food trucks.
The event ends Sunday. Awards and closing ceremonies begin at 11 a.m.
Anyone driving to the show should note that Lakeshore Drive is closed from the SS Sicamous to Winnipeg to all but locals and registrants throughout the weekend.
