Penticton & District Community Arts Council and Unity House partner to host online exhibition

The COVID-19 pandemic is certainly not slowing down creativity.

The new United in Art exhibition goes live Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 1 pm.

It can be viewed here once it goes live.

United in Art marks the first exhibition, in what is hoped will become an annual event, between the Penticton & District Community Arts Council and Canadian Mental Health Association’s Unity House Art Group.

“United in Art features paintings, pottery, bird houses, and chimes,” said PDCAC administrator Bethany Handfield. “Some of the works are not available for sale as they are part of the artist’s healing journey, but if you see something you would like to purchase or to have a print of they can be contacted.”

Unity House provides social, recreational and educational programs for individuals living with a mental illness. As well as a meals program and activities, there is a mental health advocate and a volunteer program for clients to help them get more involved in the clubhouse.

The Art Group is a great creative outlet for mental health clients to express themselves in a healthy and empowering way, as well as a way to get them out and socializing with their fellow members in a non-stressful environment.

“When approached by Unity House to explore ways of working together they discussed highlighting the work being done by the Arts Group participants to celebrate their voices as well as promoting the process of creating as a form of self care that everyone in the community can use,” added Handfield.

The Penticton & District Community Arts Council has been providing arts and cultural programming and supports for artists and the community for the past 60 years.
