Police investigating incident at Village of Keremeos

Keremeos RCMP were dispatched to the Village of Keremeos office Monday morning following a troubling incident.

According to police, witnesses say a man in his 40s was allegedly threatening staff while brandishing a sledge hammer and knife.

After entering the office, the man damaged property and allegedly assaulted workers.

When workers attempted to exit the building, the man followed them outside while continuing to yell at and assault them.

When police arrived, they were finally able to arrest the man after he allegedly assaulted an officer while resisting arrest.

A number of criminal charges have been recommended for the 41-year-old man who police believed worked alone.

Keremeos RCMP also believe that this incident was not “orchestrated or endorsed by any type of protest to current events.”

No information has been release regarding any injuries at this time.

Anyone with any additional information to this incident is asked to contact the Keremeos RCMP at (250)499-5511.
