Who knew when COVID hit in early 2020 that it would be with us long enough to impact not just one but two Terry Fox Runs?
Sadly though, that's precisely what it's done. So just like last year, the event has officially gone "virtual."
On Sunday, Sept 19th, folks are invited to run, walk, wheel or bike wherever they are for as long as they can. And of course donate as much as they can too.
"We will unite in spirit, not in person," says the Terry Fox Run website.
But here in Penticton, Run organizer Kevin Harvey -- the same wild and crazy guy who raised bucks by jogging a minimum of 5K every day for forty straight days prior to the 2020 iteration -- wants to spice things up a wee bit.
"You can either do it on your own, and that's wonderful, or you can come down to the SS Sicamous anytime between 9 and 11 (am) Sunday and just register and then head out on the channel parkway.
"We're not having a gathering or a mass start, and everything is socially distanced. You can just come down and run or walk or whatever at your own pace."
Harvey says there'll be turnaround markers at 1K, 2K and 5K, and plenty of water at the start/finish line.
He'll also be selling Terry Fox Run t-shirts Sunday morning provided he hasn't already sold out of them at his Penticton Farmers' Market stall Saturday morning.
But if you're going to donate, bring cash. Credit and debit cards can't be processed on site.
All proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation.
