One of British Columbia's finest curling teams and a homegrown Okanagan favourite was eliminated Sunday afternoon from the 2nd Annual Ashley Homestore Curling Classic at the Penticton Curling Club.
The Vernon-based Jim Cotter rink lost a 5-4 tiebreak squeaker to Manitoba's Jason Gunnlaugson, giving up three in the fourth end and never recovering.
With a purse of $66,000, the World Curling Tour event is no small potatoes. And it's attracted several elite athletes, including Scotland's Glen Muirhead and Ross Paterson and Alberta's Kevin Koe. There's even a team from China, the Qiang Zou rink out of Beijing.
The lone Penticton rink skipped by Matt Tolley finished round robin play with a 1-4 record, missing the playoffs.
The tournament culminates Monday, with two semi-finals scheduled for 8:45 a.m., and the final set to go 11:45 a.m. All the action takes place at Penticton Curling Club.
