Toni Boot, who along with fellow District of Summerland Coun. Janet Peakes, is running to become mayor in next month’s municipal election, is holding an open house to discuss her platform next week.
Boot welcomes all Summerland residents to join in the conversation at an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the IOOF Hall, 9536 Main St. in Summerland.
Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served, said Boot in a news release.
Boot said residents of Summerland will be able to choose from a strong group of candidates on general election day Oct. 20 as 15 people have put their name forward for mayor, councillor, or school trustee.
Boot is excited that the democratic process will play out next month.
“None of the positions is acclaimed,” she said. “The seats will be filled by candidates who are duly elected. I think this is a healthy scenario and congratulate everyone who has stepped forward.”
Boot, who declared her candidacy for the mayor’s chair in June, says she is looking forward to sharing her vision for Summerland.
“I have been talking to many people about what they love about our town,” said Boot. “Many have shared thoughts on how Summerland could be even better.”
She said she is looking forward to meeting with local residents to discuss her platform and answer any questions they may have heading into election day in just over one month.
