Teams to play 12-game exhibition schedule prior to start of BCHL season

The BC Hockey League has released its schedule for the 2020-21 exhibition season, leading up to the start of the regular season Dec. 1.

As part of the league’s extended training camp, the schedule will feature competition between BCHL teams within their cohort of four.

“We believe it’s important to have our players playing meaningful games during this extended period before the start of our regular season, in order to stay engaged and game-ready leading into December,” said BCHL Executive Director Steven Cocker. “Our teams are working within the guidelines to provide our players with a high level of development on and off the ice.”

With the extended training camp, the exhibition season will be significantly expanded compared to years past, with over 100 games scheduled across the league. Some teams will start play as early as Sep. 25, while others will delay until October and November, depending on their training camp model.

The Penticton Vees will play 12 games, split evenly between road games and those at South Okanagan Event Centre.

Penticton’s cohort includes West Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm.

The Vees first game is Sept. 25 in Salmon Arm. Penticton will then host the Silverbacks the following night at 6 pm at SOEC.

All meetings are scheduled as home and away, back-to-back weekend games.

The Vees will face arch-rival West Kelowna, the team they knocked out of the first round of the playoffs in March on Oct. 2, 3, 16 and 17.

The Vees final preseason game goes Nov. 7 at SOEC against Vernon.

The league announced in July that the regular-season would be delayed until December due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
