Costumes For A Cause gets kids smiling again

It all began with an unexpected, happy accident.

Demmy Conway-Grist and her wife, Renee Conway, we're gearing up for a fun evening out at Prince George’s very first Fancon back in 2015.

Decked out in a newly purchased Michaelangelo Ninja Turtle costume, the pair attracted quite a crowd.

They received an overwhelming response from parents and children alike, many who were interested in birthday party appearances and more.

Demmy and Renee had unknowingly discovered the perfect way to give back to the city of PG.

That very same year Costumes For A Cause was born. The non-profit association is solely run by volunteers who are “committed to bettering ours and surrounding communities through encouragement, smiles and fun!”

Costumes For A Cause has succeeded tremendously in their efforts.

Their many beloved characters have puts smiles on countless faces, with extra special attention given to sick kids in hospitals.

“Our visits to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice have been extremely moving. The visit that stands out the most was a visit with a eight year old boy who was suffering from terminal cancer,” says Conway-Grist.

“We were so grateful that we got to create a memory for the family and such a fun afternoon for this boy.”

Costumes For a Cause has been embraced by the Prince George community immensely. Just this year Hub City Volkswagen donated a new van decked out with the CFAC logo.

“Without that, trips to Canuck Place and BC Children’s Hospital wouldn’t be possible. It was incredibly generous of them and has helped us to reach out to so many more kids that need a smile,” gushes Conway-Grist.

If you’re interested in getting involved yourself, Costumes For a Cause is always looking for volunteers.

Contact Demmy and Renee through their Facebook group and send a message.

This non-profit organization operates on a donation basis, earning enough money to purchase new characters for a wider reach of audience.

Just last month these two selfless ladies worked diligently to get their two pooch pals certified as therapy dogs.

Whatever it takes to get more smiles out of those who need it!

Keep an eye on the Costume For a Cause Facebook page for upcoming appearances at community events around town! Or give them a shout if you’d like to book a character for your kid’s next big birthday bash.

A very special thanks to both Renee and Demmy for all their hard work.
