Prince George RCMP's bait bike is proving to become very effective as its deployment resulted in the multiple arrests this month.
According to police, on May 15th, frontline officers deployed the bike which was stolen in just four minutes. RCMP arrested Orlando James Egnell who was charged with Theft Under $5,000 by the BC Prosecution Service. He has been released and is scheduled for court on June 5th.
Approximately an hour after its initial deployment, a 49-year-old man attempted to steal the bike, this time only 30 minutes after being placed. The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date, though a report has not yet been forwarded to the BCPS.
Only minutes after the second arrest, officers put the bike back in the same spot, and it was stolen again. This time a 30-year-old Prince George man was arrested in possession of the bike. He is due to appear for court on July 3rd.
Specific details on where the bait bike will not be released so thieves won't be tipped off. Prince George residents are always reminded to lock up their bikes and remember the serial number. If they do not, they will not have a good chance of retrieving their stolen bike.
