Sixth annual Climb for Cancer raises over $47K

The 6th annual Climb for Cancer raised over $47,000 for the Kordyban Lodge.

This year’s goal was to raise $50,000 and donations are still rolling in so the goal could be surpassed.

Over the past six years there has now been $250,000 raised.

“We are thrilled with the amount raised and the incredible support from the community both in participating in the event and raising money for the Kordyban Lodge and providing support to ensure both events ran smoothly,” says Doug Bell, Planning Committee Chair.

Around 500 people attended events over the weekend and about 35 people volunteered at the event and were made up of planning committee members, including one who travelled from Kamloops for the event, Kordyban Lodge staff, and the UNBC Timberwolves Athletic Society.

Attendance was staggered over the course of the climb to ensure adequate physical distancing.

Teams and individual participants were assigned a “time to climb” between 11 am and 3 pm on Sunday to space out the number of people on the cutbanks at one time.

On Saturday, there was a community concert at the Northern Lights Estate Winery with music by Chris Goodwin, Ben Brown, and Chris Camilli, munch on eats from Smokey J’s and The Open Door Café and a number of vendor tables.

All the funds raised will go towards the annual costs associated with operating the Kordyban Lodge – the non-profit organization providing affordable and safe home-away-from-homes for cancer patients who are receiving treatment at the BC Cancer Centre for northern communities.

Donations are still being accepted and can be made at www.climbforcancer.ca.
