A downtown bank in Salmon Arm was held up at gunpoint on Monday afternoon, and RCMP are turning to the public for help.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a robbery in progress after the suspect entered the bank with what was described by witnesses as a long sawed off shotgun.
The suspect approached the teller and demanded money, and he made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. He then put the cash into a black sports bag and fled the scene by bicycle.
Police set up perimeters once they arrived on scene but were unable to catch the man.
The suspect was wearing a black balaclava, a long sleeve black cotton shirt, dark jeans, and had a make-shift holster taped to his right leg. His height is estimated at 6’3” tall.
Police are now urging anyone who has information on the person who matches their description to call Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
