Watch B.C.’s Fire Danger Change Throughout July

The BC Wildfire Service has released an intriguing video to show how conditions changed in the month of July.

The month started out pretty green in the Interior, but the orange and red of “high” and “extreme” fire danger ratings kept creeping up, almost overcoming the entire province at one point. Though B.C. got a couple bouts of rain to cool it down, you can see that higher danger levels return pretty quickly because of the previous dry conditions.

VIDEO: The animation below shows how B.C.’s Fire Danger Rating has changed throughout July. High to Extreme danger ratings have been spreading to more areas over the last couple of days, and this trend will likely continue over the next few days. Looking ahead to the long weekend, it will be vital for the public to respect the fire regulations in their area and exercise an abundance of caution. Please report smoke columns, wildfires, and contraventions of fire prohibitions immediately to *5555 on a cell or 1 800 663-5555. Have a great BC Day long weekend!

On Saturday, much of the Interior has a “high” or “extreme” rating, and the hot and dry weather is supposed to continue over the long weekend. As a result, officials are urging caution and asking the public to respect the fire regulations. In the Kamloops Fire Centre, which encompasses the Interior, the campfire ban remains in effect.

You can report smoke or wildfires to *5555 on a cell phone or 1-800-663-5555.
