Two teenage boys lost consciousness in a Vancouver park over the weekend, and one remains in grave condition.
Vancouver Police believe that the boys, aged 16 and 17, purchased and consumed fake Oxycontin known as “fake 80s”. The two were unconscious in a Vancouver Park after taking the drug on Saturday night. Both of the teens were rushed to Children’s Hospital.
While the 16-year-old woke up and is recovering from the ordeal, the 17-year-old is in grave condition on life support.
The fake pills were apparently green with the number 80 on them. Vancouver Police, however, remind people that fentanyl can be in many forms and is often mixed with other drugs. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more toxic than morphine, and the drug has been linked to many recent overdose deaths.
“There is no such thing as a safe street drug,” says Constable Brian Montague. “There is no way to know for certain what the drug may contain.”
