FortisBC has restored electricity to areas impacted by the forest fires near Rock Creek and Oliver.
FortisBC electric infrastructure was damaged between Rock Creek and Westbridge as well as in Oliver due to recent wildfires. Crews worked as quickly as possible to restore service to impacted customers. According to FortisBC, they completed and re-energized the 10-kilometre main line between Rock Creek and Westbridge on Saturday, August 22nd.
Crews have also repaired 18 of the 22 secondary lines that bring service to the homes in the area and expect the remaining lines will be completed by Friday. With the main line and most secondary lines rebuilt, most properties along the route from Rock Creek to Westbridge now have access to power. Residents who have buildings or structures which were damaged by the fire are asked to contact service teams.
With the main line complete and energized, FortisBC has also restored permanent service to all customers who were previously on a temporary, diesel generated power system. Repairs have also been completed to the main transmission line outside of Oliver and crews are waiting for fire officials to declare additional areas safe so other repairs can be done.
