British Tourist Dies While Diving Off B.C.'s Coast

A tragic diving accident has claimed the life of an English police officer vacationing on Vancouver Island in the Victoria-area.

On Thursday, the BC Coroners Service confirmed the identity of 28-year-old Man (Timothy) Chu from London, England.

Chu went on a chartered diving expedition on July 5th at the Race Rocks, a marine ecological reserve near the eastern end of Juan de Fuca Strait.

According to BC Coroners, he became separated from the divemaster just before noon and failed to surface.

An extensive search and rescue was deployed, but divers failed to find any trace of Chu.

It wasn’t until August 23rd that a fisherman spotted a deceased male off a buoy at Race Rocks. The body was later confirmed as Chu.

Foul play is not suspected in this case, but there is an ongoing investigation underway by the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP.
