Storm to Bring Strong Winds to South Coast of B.C.

Environment Canada has issued a strong wind warning for the south coast of B.C.

The wind warning has been issued for the Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Sunshine Coast, and West Vancouver Island areas.

Winds are expected to increase to 70 km/h Saturday morning ahead of the weather front and will gust up to 90 km/h Saturday afternoon as a rapidly intensifying storm passes across the region.

These strong winds may cause damage and are expected to diminish in the afternoon as the storm moves inland.

Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents, and awnings at outdoor events. High winds may toss loose object or cause tree branches to break.

The Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver areas have also been issued a heavy rainfall warning.

The storm will bring as much as 80 millimetres of rain and flash floods are a possibility.

The Ministry of Transportation is encouraging motorists to plan their route ahead of time as roads may be affected by the heavy rainfall.
