Transportation Minister Urges Drivers to Shift Into Winter

Winter driving conditions increase the danger on B.C. roads, and the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure is making sure drivers in the province are ready for snowy weather.

Minister Todd Stone launched the Shift Into Winter campaign on Monday to ensure drivers properly prepare their vehicles for the upcoming snow.

“Now that fall has arrived and with winter around the corner, having the right kind of tires on your car to give you proper traction is very important,” Stone said. “The Shift Into Winter campaign reminds drivers that having proper tires, planning ahead, and driving according to road conditions will help keep them safe when driving in difficult weather conditions.”

Stone, along with representatives from police, ICBC, and Worksafe BC tested out their driving abilities on the Drivewise driving simulation on Monday.

The simulator can put drivers in various difficult driving conditions such as snow, slush, ice, heavy rain, and fog.

This year, the Shift Into Winter campaign is offering free online courses for companies with employees who drive during the winter months in B.C. The new course helps managers and supervisors get ahead of the winter weather by planning and implementing a winter driving safety program for the workplace.
