The BC Coroners Service has confirmed that the foot found on a beach on the BC coast is human.
The human foot, which is the 13th to wash ashore since 2007, was found on Botanical Beach on February 7th, 2016. According to the coroner, the foot was in a sock in a running shoe and was found by a hiker walking along the shoreline southeast of Port Renfrew.
It has been confirmed that the type of shoe the foot was in was sold in North America in March 2013 which implies that the person died at some point between March 2013 and December 2015.
“Preliminary examination suggests that the foot disarticulated naturally from the rest of the body, a result of prolonged immersion in water,” said the coroner in a statement.
The BC Coroners Service will now work on identifying the person and cause of death. The BC Coroners Service has been able to identify 10 of the 13 feet found, belonging to seven individuals. In none of the cases was any foul play involved.
