The second of two water advisories announced last week for Shuswap Lake is still in place as Interior Health awaits confirmation that the water is 100 per cent safe for all types of usage.
On Mar. 15, the first advisory was put out after a spill of glue and fuel products into Shuswap Lake, northeast of Canoe, near the shoreline of Canoe Forest Products.
At the time, the water intake from the lake for residents of Salmon Arm was shut off, and various other guidelines were recommended.
A day later, the City of Salmon Arm intake was turned back on when they determined there was no risk to human health at that section of the lake.
Interior Health, the Ministry of Environment and Environment Canada have worked together to respond to the situation and Michaela Swan with Interior Health said their second advisory will remain in place until they receive the lab tests confirming that in the samples there is no risk to human health.
At this time, Interior Health still advises that residents avoid recreational use of the lake from 100 metres off the log booms including boating, fishing and swimming.
Residents who draw water from the lake through private sources are advised not to do so at this time.
Right now, Environment Canada is leading the investigation, and there is no estimated time for when the results will be released.
